Cabinet Makers Association Benchmark Study

SAN DIEGO -- Attendees of the Wood Pro Conference will get a firsthand review and analysis of the 2022 outlook for business, staffing and compensation trends, shop rates, and other issues of importance to custom woodworking executives.

Amanda Conger, executive director of the Cabinet Makers Association, will present highlights of the 2021 Benchmark Survey, an annual study the CMA conducts in partnership with Woodworking Network and FDMC magazine. The comprehensive survey of small shop owners in the U.S. and Canada also delves into CNC automation use, construction methods, and marketing.

“As a company, we have benefited from the up-to-date and useful information obtained through the CMA’s annual survey,” said Ken Kumph, owner of Premier Builders of Georgetown, Mass., and president of the CMA. “It has been a great resource that has helped us look deeper into our company and the way we do business. Ultimately, the information contained in the survey has enabled us to look beyond the four walls of my shop and really expand on my knowledge of being a small business owner.”

FDMC published an article based on the 2020 Benchmark Study results, authored by Conger, last December.

Conger's presentation is one of five sessions that will be featured in the Wood Pro Conference track scheduled for April 27. Other sessions include:

  • Opening Keynote by Laurie Haefele, Associate AIA, ASID, NKBA, Haefele Design Inc.;
  • Sensei Leadership Workshop by Jim Bouchard;
  • Adding Closets to Your Mix by Matt Wehner; and
  • Pricing Survey by Will Sampson.

The full-day conference will be capped by a tour of an area wood products manufacturing plant.

The Wood Pro Conference will run concurrently with the annual Closets Conference. The conferences precede the Closets Expo and Wood Pro Expo California on April 28 and 29 at the San Diego Convention Center.
